The Wendy’s Company is the latest big name in fast food to partner with Dext for sustainable heating.
The new Wendy’s restaurant in Bromborough is a freestanding drive-thru restaurant at Croft Retail Park, which is now open and ready to serve the Wirral community. As the heating season begins, the warm welcome they offer customers will be well supported by the run-around DexThermic on the roof.

DexThermic’s RA (run-around) model sits in the extract duct and recycles heat that would otherwise be wasted, redirecting it back into the building’s heating system to bolster performance and energy efficiency.*
Commercial Director of Dext Heat Recovery Neil Bracewell explains: ‘Before the Wendy’s team placed an order, we were able to use our DextCalc software to forecast the savings that this restaurant would make using the DexThermic run-around. This allowed their team to make a fully informed decision before committing to installation.
‘Our data showed that by recovering and repurposing wasted heat to pre-warm incoming air, this restaurant could potentially save £7,863 and 7,094 kg of CO2 per year – not bad considering the average heating season is only 170 days long!
‘We worked alongside the Wendy’s team and their contractors in August to install the DexThermic with no disruption to their schedule. The first fix took two days – including a crane lifting it onto the roof – and another two days for the second fix.

‘Transparency is one of our key values, and we always do a handover to the team upon completion so they know exactly how everything works and how to clean and maintain the system.
‘We’re looking forward to the upcoming heating system and seeing the DexThermic reach its potential in saving money, minimising waste and reducing the carbon footprint of this iconic brand.
‘I imagine this will be the first of many Wendy’s installations as the technology proves itself (and swiftly pays for itself) in the coming months.’
