The year kicked off with the building, commissioning and testing of a state-of-the-art environmental wind tunnel. The machine was designed and custom built specifically to test and develop the new heat exchanger technology, and the design was based on the previous year’s findings and extensive design studies.

The manufacture was undertaken by DCI Refrigeration & Electrical Ltd, and Marvtech. The aim of the commission was to create a fully automated test centre that could increase the progress and effectiveness of the iterative R&D plan.

Initially, small-scale prototypes were tested and validated against the CFD models, and as the science stacked up, the ambition for the project increased.

Milestones
- EWT was installed and commissioned at the AMP.
- The previous periodic CFD models were validated using the EWT hardware.
- The optimum design pathway was identified and mapped.
